Maps are scale pictorial representation of the physical surface of the earth. Maps are use as guides for
travelers and navigators. However, before the invention of GPS, maps are not as reliable and accurate as they are today. Cartography or the science and
art of making maps date back to 2300 B.C. The oldest maps in the world are Babylonian clay tablets. Map-making or cartography had become more advanced in ancient Greece. The Greeks knew at even that time (about 350 B.C.) that the earth is spherical and they made accurate representation of earth surface. The most accurate map in ancient times was made by Claudius Ptolemaeus (A.D. 85-165). He depicted the known world in his map which was an authoritative map until the Renaissance.
